Kolintang summary
The kolintang is a traditional instrument. The Kolintang is a xylophone which means that it is a wooden instrument. There are 5 types of Kolintang which are: Melody, Tenor, Alto, Contra, and Bass. You have to use specific mallets to play a specific type of Kolintang. You use the dark green mallet to play the Melody and Alto, the mint green mallet to play the Tenor, and the brown mallet to play the Bass and Contra.
In the past few weeks we have been learning different warmups. We learned two warmups. Both of them are somewhat simple. The class has decided to learn and play a song made by Mozart. We were also assigned to our instruments and i was assigned to the Tenor instrument. The Tenor was quite harder than the melody. Since there were only a few sharp notes that we would have to hit while playing the song, we had the option to remove the sharp notes by removing the key that contains the sharp note temporarily.
It is not clear where the Kolintang came from. Some people say its from the Philippines others say it came from somewhere else. The Kolintang came to Indonesia from outside cultures.
